Broken window at night: the first hour
A smashed pane is an open house. The first hour is safety and a closed opening — not a new window. Then we replace the glass.
Do this now
- Keep people and pets away from the glass
- Do not pull shards out of the frame — that is how cuts happen
- If water is coming in, move what is below it
- Photograph the damage before you tidy anything — insurers ask
- If it looks like a break-in, call police first and get a file number
Then close the opening
Call for board-up or temporary glazing. Same night across Metro Vancouver. Plywood or a temp lite is not the finished glass. It stops weather and access until the unit is fabricated.
Tell us the address, what broke (house window, patio door, storefront), and whether anyone is still in the building. Storefronts we typically glaze after close so you open on time.
What we do when we arrive
- Secure the opening
- Clear broken glass safely
- Board up or fit temporary glazing
- Photograph for your claim if you ask
- Measure for the permanent pane or sealed unit
The glass comes second
Tempered, laminated, or a full IGU — matched to the opening and to code. Doors and many windows cannot go back as annealed float. The frame stays unless it failed too.
Call
For a live opening, calling is faster than the quote form. Board-up first. The replacement lite follows when it is ready.
