Rope access glass replacement
Rope access glass replacement in Metro Vancouver is for elevations a lift cannot reach. WorkSafeBC Part 34 requires IRATA or SPRAT certified technicians — then the glass can be swapped without closing the street.
WorkSafeBC · Part 34
Certification
Industrial rope access for glass is a regulated job in B.C. — not a bosun’s chair, and not a climbing ticket.
01
IRATA or SPRAT
WorkSafeBC accepts these two industrial tickets for high-rise glass work — install, repair, and inspection.
02
Three levels, three years
Technician certificates run Level I, II, and III. They expire. The ticket on the job has to be current.
03
On the job
Certificates stay at the workplace and come out if a WorkSafeBC officer asks. A logbook travels with the crew.
04
Written plan
Before anyone goes on rope: a rope access plan on site, and documented training on that specific plan.
Does not count
Mountain-guide (ACMG) and cave-rescue tickets are for recreation sites. They do not cover high-rise glass work.
General guidance — not a substitute for the current WorkSafeBC regulation.
Access
When a lift will not reach.
Some elevations are past a crane, a boom, or a swing stage. Industrial rope access in B.C. must be done by IRATA or SPRAT technicians under a written rope access plan. We still replace only the glass.
