Residential glass repair · Metro Vancouver
Glass railings & balcony guard glass
Glass railing and balcony guard glass in Metro Vancouver must be safety glazing. We replace damaged panels in existing systems and build new guards to BC code.

Glass railings
Glass in a guard is safety glazing, not picture glass. In Metro Vancouver we replace a damaged panel in the system you have, or build a new run to the current code.
01
Safety glazing
Guards use tempered or laminated glass conforming to CAN/CGSB-12.1, with structural design to CAN/CGSB-12.20. Annealed glass does not belong here.
02
100 mm sphere
Openings must not pass a 100 mm sphere. Guard height depends on fall height and occupancy. We check the existing run before we cut a replacement.
03
Match the system
Most jobs are one cracked or etched lite in a shoe, spigot, or post. We match thickness and edgework and leave the rest of the railing in place.
04
Frameless needs engineering
Frameless and structural glass guards need engineer-sealed drawings. We do not guess a thickness from a photograph.
Per project
Requirements depend on the installation. We confirm against the current BC Building Code. This page is general guidance, not a substitute for that review.

Guards
Replace a panel. Keep the system.
Most railing jobs are a single damaged lite in an existing shoe, spigot, or post system. We match thickness and edgework as closely as discontinued glass allows, and we build new guards when the whole run is the job.
