How to measure a sealed unit for replacement
Most Metro Vancouver sealed units can be priced from a photo and two measurements. Measure the unit, not the drywall hole. If you would rather not climb, we measure on site.
What to measure
- Width of the glass unit (left to right of the IGU, not the trim)
- Height of the glass unit (top to bottom of the IGU)
- Thickness of the whole sandwich if you can see the edge — often at a corner after a screen is off
- How many units, and which floors / access (ladder, patio, lift)
Measure in millimetres if you can. A phone photo of the tape against the glass is better than a rounded “about two by three.”
Photos that help
- The foggy pane, straight on
- The interior of the frame and the exterior if you can
- The edge / spacer if visible
- Any stamp or bug in the corner of the glass
What we still confirm
Before we order, we confirm overall size, thickness, and coatings on site or from a unit we can see clearly. A photo quote is a range. The fabrication size is exact. Do not take the old unit out until the new one is on the way unless the glass is a hazard — then we board up first.
Safety
Do not stand on furniture over a stair to get a millimetre. Send what you can. We will measure the rest.
