Window rebates in BC — what applies to glass work
People hear “window rebate” and expect money off a foggy sealed unit. In B.C., most programs pay for qualifying new windows and doors — not a unit swapped into the frame you already have. Always check the current rules.
The usual split
Provincial Better Homes / CleanBC-style rebates, when they are open, typically require replacing a window or door between heated and unheated space with a product that meets a U-factor, installed by a licensed contractor, with invoices and label photos. Skylights are often ineligible. Amounts, caps, and which municipalities qualify change — the City of Vancouver sometimes runs its own path.
A foggy IGU replacement keeps the existing frame. That is glass repair. It is usually the right thermal fix for a failed seal, and it is usually not the rebate category called “window replacement.”
What to do before you spend
- Read the current Better Homes BC window and door page, not a blog from three years ago
- If you are in the City of Vancouver, check civic programs separately
- Ask whether an IGU-only swap qualifies — do not assume it does
- Keep invoices and manufacturer labels if you are doing a full qualifying replacement
How we help
We quote the glass job you need. If you are pursuing a full window rebate with another contractor, that is a different scope. If a replacement IGU can be spec’d to a performance target you were given, tell us the target. We do not guarantee a government payment — programs are not ours to award.
